Where modernist artistry meets timeless elegance — introducing a luxury blue cashmere scarf that embodies architectural beauty and the essence of wearable art.

At SAFIRO, we believe that fashion is more than just clothing — it is a form of expression, a work of art, and a statement of individuality. That’s why we collaborate with world-renowned artists to create wearable art, transforming their vision into luxurious, limited-edition pieces.

Our latest collaboration with acclaimed modernist artist Andy Burgess brings you the Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf — a tribute to one of Europe’s most celebrated modernist homes, designed by the Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra (1892-1970).

Crafted from the finest-grade cashmere, this blue cashmere scarf is not only a beautiful accessory for any outfit but a piece of collectible art, designed for those who appreciate luxury with meaning.

Art, Architecture, and a Shared Love for Blue

The collaboration between SAFIRO Founder Yulia Shirokova and the celebrated artist Andy Burgess was born from a shared passion for art, architecture, and the color blue. Their creative connection began in an unexpected yet serendipitous way — at the prestigious Serpentine Gallery Annual Party in London in 2023, an event that attracts some of the world’s most influential figures in contemporary art and culture.

Yulia and Andy instantly bonded over their mutual admiration for clean lines, geometric precision, and artistic textures. As they explored London’s iconic architectural and art landmarks together, they saw a natural alignment between SAFIRO’s signature aesthetic and Andy’s modernist paintings — both embracing sophistication, high-quality craftsmanship, and timeless design.

“We quickly realised that we shared the same appreciation for structure and detail. Andy’s work has a unique sense of movement and depth that almost feels like fabric, while SAFIRO designs emphasise clean elegance and artistic expression,” says Yulia.

Beyond their passion for form and composition, one element stood out in both SAFIRO’s collections and Andy’s art — the color blue. From deep, midnight navy to refreshing sky blue, shades of blue have been a defining element in their creative journeys, symbolising elegance, confidence, and versatility. This is how the idea to create a joint wearable art piece was born.

Andy Burgess: The Artist Behind the Design

Andy Burgess’s paintings celebrate modernist and contemporary architecture and explore its relationship to modern art, and in particular, abstract painting.

Whether rediscovering lost architectural gems in the “International style” or reinterpreting classic and famous “Mid-Century Modern” homes, Burgess brings a fresh perspective to the architecture itself, to create emotionally resonant and joyful paintings.

Known for his striking geometric compositions and architectural precision, Andy Burgess has captivated art collectors worldwide with his ability to translate the beauty of modernist architecture into bold, color-rich paintings.

Burgess’s paintings often begin with a real place, an actual house that he may or may not have seen in the flesh, but he inevitably chooses to re-invent and re-imagine the scene, adding his own heightened, non-realistic color palette and adding or subtracting furniture and foliage to create a new reality. In the end he depicts dream-like versions of these houses that inspire contemplation and reverie. The final painting is often more akin to a stage or movie-set, less of a photographic representation than an invented and abstracted reality.

The clean lines, open spaces, use of modern and innovative materials such as steel, concrete and glass and the adoption of state-of-the-art building and design techniques make many mid-century houses stunning works of art in their own right and a perfect subject matter for contemporary painting.

Andy Burgess is a renowned British artist based in Tucson, Aizona. He is best known for his abstract depiction of modernist architecture, in particular for mid-century modern homes. Likened to David Hockney, Burgess describes his style as “Pop Geometry”.

Burgess has exhibited at the Tucson Museum of Art, University of Arizona Museum of Art, the Cynthia Corbett Gallery in London, Tandem Press in Wisconsin, the Bonner David Galleries in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the Etherton Gallery in Tucson. Burgess’s known collectors include Kazuo Ishiguro and Emma Thompson.

A Blue Cashmere Scarf Inspired by Architectural Mastery

The Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf is more than just an accessory — it is a tribute to one of Europe’s most celebrated modernist homes, designed by the Austrian-American architect Richard Neutra (1892-1970).

The scarf is based on an original painting by Andy Burgess, depicting the Ebelin Bucerius House, a masterpiece of mid-century modern architecture built high above Lake Maggiore in Switzerland. Constructed between 1962-1966, this home is widely regarded as one of Neutra’s most significant European projects, a symbol of refined modernism blending clean lines with the natural beauty of its surroundings.

Burgess’ interpretation of this architectural icon is both minimalist and bold, stripping down the structure to its geometric essence. His painting abstracts the front entrance of the house, reimagining Neutra’s signature steel beams as colourful straight lines that inject movement and rhythm into the composition. The result is a playful yet sophisticated visual language, full of dynamic energy that echoes the innovative spirit of mid-century design.

What makes this translation so exceptional is how seamlessly it shifts from canvas to textile, from wall-based artwork to wearable garment. The Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf maintains Burgess’ artistic precision while embracing the fluidity of woven fabric, allowing its rich blue hues, soft beige accents, and bold architectural lines to create an elegant, versatile accessory.

“For me, modernist architecture is about simplicity, sophistication, and precision—qualities that align perfectly with the SAFIRO philosophy,” says Burgess. “The Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf is an extension of that world, a way to carry art with you wherever you go.”

By merging art, architecture, and high-end craftsmanship, SAFIRO and Andy Burgess have created a true piece of wearable art — an homage to a legendary architect, a contemporary artist’s vision, and the timeless appeal of mid-century modernism.

From Canvas to Cashmere: designing a Wearable Masterpiece

Selecting the Perfect Artwork for Wearable Art

For this exclusive collaboration, SAFIRO Founder Yulia Shirokova and artist Andy Burgess embarked on a meticulous creative journey — one that would translate a masterpiece of modernist architecture into a wearable work of art.

The process began with carefully selecting an artwork from Burgess’ archive, searching for a piece that would retain its depth, structure, and emotion when placed on the finest cashmere fabric. It needed to be more than just visually striking — it had to embody SAFIRO’s signature aesthetic of timeless elegance and versatility.

“We wanted a piece that felt fluid between seasons, one that could be worn across genders and adapt effortlessly to different styles,” explains Yulia. “It wasn’t just about creating a scarf — it was about curating an artistic experience that blends luxury, art, architecture, and personal expression.”

After much consideration, the Neutra House painting stood out. Its distinctive shade of blue, reminiscent of both crisp Swiss skies and classic denim, made it effortlessly sophisticated and wearable. The bold, linear composition of Neutra’s architectural beams lent itself perfectly to textile design, while the subtle accents of beige, red, black, and orange offered versatility for styling with both neutral and bold colour palettes.

Transforming a Two-Dimensional Painting into a Three-Dimensional Scarf

One of the biggest challenges was transforming a two-dimensional painting into a three-dimensional textile piece — a scarf designed to be worn and draped around the body rather than displayed on a wall. The original painting was horizontal, while the scarf design required a long, rectangular format.

To maintain the integrity of Burgess’ composition, we split the painting into two sections so that when the scarf is worn, the artwork meets together in the front, forming a harmonious visual balance. This approach ensures that the architectural lines and colours remain recognisable, structured, and visually captivating, no matter how the scarf is styled.

To enhance the transformation into wearable art, we also designed an extended background in the same signature blue as the painting, incorporating separate elements of Burgess’ work in between. These mirrored details allow the piece to maintain its architectural essence while ensuring a cohesive and fluid aesthetic when wrapped, draped, or folded.

Crafting Luxury: The Finest Cashmere, Precision Weaving & Finishing Touches

The next step was selecting a  fabric worthy of such an artistic interpretation. For this special edition, SAFIRO ordered a luxurious herringbone-weave cashmere and silk blend that was specially woven for these scarves, chosen for its soft yet structured texture, which would enhance the linear precision of Burgess’ design.

The herringbone weave was carefully chosen to echo the structured, geometric lines found in Neutra’s architecture, adding a sense of depth while maintaining an airy, fluid drape. This detail ensures that the Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf is not only visually stunning but also tactilely exquisite, offering the wearer a sensory experience of softness, warmth, and movement.

To add a refined finishing touch, we decided on a hand-rolled edge along the long sides of the scarf, enhancing its crafted-by-hand feel and longevity. Meanwhile, the ends of each scarf feature an artistic fringe, a subtle nod to the architectural textures found in Burgess’ work, bringing a sense of movement and lightness to the final piece.

Every aspect of the scarf’s composition, colour balance, and textile quality was considered, ensuring it seamlessly transitions from day to evening, winter to summer, and across formal and casual settings — a true investment in wearable art.

A Statement Piece: How to Style the Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf

The Neutra House Blue Cashmere Scarf is more than a striking piece of wearable art—it is a versatile statement accessory that effortlessly enhances any outfit, whether you’re dressing for a refined business look, a chic casual ensemble, an elegant evening occasion, or an avant-garde artistic style. For a business-chic touch, tuck the scarf loosely into a Blue Pearl Long Sleeve Silk Top, adding a textured contrast to the smooth silk fabric, or pair it with Pearl White Wool Trousers for a fresh, minimalist aesthetic that transitions beautifully from winter to spring.

Casual Chic: Jeans & Luxe Layering

The blue tones of the scarf make it a perfect match for denim, making it an ideal companion for a casual yet polished look. Wear it effortlessly draped over a chic jeans outfit with a crisp white blouse for a Parisian-inspired ensemble, or tie it as a loose neck scarf with a Jade Pearl Silk Top and light-wash denim for a relaxed weekend look with a luxury twist.

For a more modern edge, style it with black trousers, a sleek turtleneck, and ankle boots, allowing the scarf’s geometric pattern and colour play to bring vibrancy to a classic monochrome look.
